Assistant Warden

An exciting opportunity to become part of the small team that manages over 800 ha of flood plain meadows on the Nene Washes in the Cambridgeshire Fens. The nature reserve is one of the most important sites in the UK for breeding waders, including 90% of the UKs breeding black-tailed godwits. The post is part funded by Project Godwit and you will have an important role in conserving this species. Other nesting bird species typical of this habitat that we manage are snipe, spotted crake, crane and garganey. The Nene is also internationally important for wintering waterfowl, these include Bewick's and whooper swans, wigeon, pintail, shoveler and Icelandic black-tailed godwits.

We are looking for someone interested in working in nature conservation, enjoys being outdoors in the countryside, has good practical skills and a knowledge of birds and other wildlife. Tractor driving and working with livestock will be important parts of the job.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. You will be asked to declare both spent and unspent convictions and cautions at offer of employment stage.

Salary starting at

£19,602 - £21,236 per annum
