Flyways Manager

As Flyway Manager you will lead the RSPB's contribution to BirdLife's East Atlantic Flyway Initiative. You will establish a series of programmes and projects along the flyway, working with and through BirdLife Partners and others (both government and non-government), to improve the conditions for the birds using the flyway.

In your role, you will lead a team to identify the places and partners where you can create the greatest impact for birds of conservation concern using the flyway. Using capacity building and drawing in other skills, such as site protection, habitat restoration, and national, regional and global policies you will agree and lead the implementation of programmes with selected partners where you create mutual benefit in enhancing the partner skills and capacity, whilst delivering projects of significant conservation value. You will alslo work towards a strong network of partners working together to promote the conservation of their shared nature.

Key shortlisting criteria:
1. Proven excellent leadership and people management skills, able to develop team members for high performance and build a positive culture.
2. Extensive experience of working internationally with BirdLife Partners and others to deliver conservation objectives, especially through capacity building.
3. Detailed knowledge of the birds and habitats of conservation concern along the East Atlantic Flyway and the conservation measures required.
4. Ability to co-ordinate multi-disciplinary and multi-organisational teams to deliver tangible change.
5. Collaboration skills to build relationships, navigate politics and manage conflicts with a wide range of organisations and individuals both within and external to the RSPB.
6. Project management skills to plan and manage projects, financial management, manage risks, costs, time and project teams.
7. Leads provision of professional expertise and advice in relation to flyway management, experience of setting standards and managing systems of oversight and monitoring and review.
8. Excellent written and verbal communication stills to present, influence and represent the organisation.

The position will required the post holder to travel extensively to remote regions of tropical countries.

Salary starting at

£39,970 to £43,301 per annum
