Visitor Experience Officer Stour Estuary Reserve

Reference number: A2541019

Location: Suffolk

Are you an outgoing people-person who loves the outdoors and is passionate about wildlife? Would you relish an opportunity to inspire people to make a difference to the wildlife in their own gardens?

The RSPB's flagship wildlife garden at historic Flatford, in Suffolk, is looking for an ambassador to take the lead with our face-to-face work. Based at the garden two days per week, you will be co-ordinating your work with another Visitor Experience Officer (part-time, three days per week), and an existing team of friendly and experienced volunteers to inspire visitors about the wildlife in their own back gardens, and gain support for the RSPB's highly regarded conservation work.

With gardens covering almost 3 times as much land as all the RSPB's reserves put together, there is huge potential to make a difference through sympathetic gardening for struggling wildlife such as bees, hedgehogs, butterflies and many garden birds.

Work will include promoting, developing and running a program of events, focussed on family-friendly activities. A vital part of the role will be gathering support via membership to the RSPB, and also finding ways to increase other income sources. There will be some opportunities to help with the continued redevelopment of the garden and associated interpretation. With close support from the Site Manager and the local reserves team this is an exciting and dynamic role, an excellent chance to develop your skills, whilst also helping to make a real difference for wildlife.

Initially this position will be on an hourly paid contract basis until 15 March 2020, to allow for a small number of workdays for the purposes of planning of events and activities, which normally takes place before the garden re-opens to the public.
