Conservation Action Plan Officer

Cooperation Across Borders for Biodiversity (CABB) is a €4.9m project that will be delivered across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the west coast of Scotland. Funding of €4.2m from the European Regional Development Fund, administered locally by the Special EU Programmes Body, and match funding from the government of Northern Ireland (NI) and the Republic of Ireland (RoI), RSPB Scotland and Mines Restoration Limited has brought six partners together to deliver a five year project ending in December 2021. The RSPB NI as Lead Partner will deliver CABB in partnership with Birdwatch Ireland, RSPB Scotland, Northern Ireland Water, Butterfly Conservation and Moors for the Future.

RSPB NI and Birdwatch Ireland are seeking a Conservation Action Plan (CAP) Officer for a 20 month period, to complete a Conservation Action Plan for the Dunragh Loughs/ Pettigo Plateau SAC in Donegal and assist others in the CABB team where appropriate. In this role you will liaise with RSPB NI, Birdwatch Ireland, Northern Ireland Environmental Agency and National Parks and Wildlife Service, landowners and other relevant stakeholders.

We are looking for a candidate who is self motivated and prides themselves on delivering high standards. They will have excellent ecological skills and knowledge, particularly of blanket bog habitats and their conservation. They will also have excellent communication and report writing ability, organisational and time management skills and a proactive attitude. They will make sustainable recommendations to inform future management of the site. Tasks will include Conservation Action Plan writing, drawing up of appropriate conservation actions based on habitat requirements, accurate interpretation of habitat maps, preparing progress reports, deciphering ecological information and sharing information and liaisons with the wider CABB Project Team.

As part of a dynamic team your ability to, be flexible, communicate what needs to be done to others and tackle changing priorities will be put to excellent use in supporting us to deliver the Conservation Action Plan objectives.

Although you will be employed by RSPB Northern Ireland, your work will almost be entirely related to sites in Donegal; you will therefore work very closely with Birdwatch Ireland, who will partly supervise your role. You will preferably be based at BirdWatch Ireland's Letterkenny Office or RSPB's Enniskillen Office.
