Policy Assistant - Marine

Reference number: A2931019

Location: Bedfordshire

The future of our seas and oceans has never been more important, had a higher public profile, or been as prominent in Parliamentary debates across the UK. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to start their career in environmental policy. Suitable for a recent graduate, this fixed term role will support the RSPB's work to secure stronger protection for seabirds and other marine species and habitats.

Working with colleagues from across the organisation to develop and advocate for policy proposals, you will support our work on fisheries, marine protected areas and more. With a range of opportunities and risks facing our marine environment, now is a great time to work to secure more effective marine policies. This role provides an opportunity to work in one of the biggest policy departments in the environmental NGO sector, focusing on policy research, analysis and the production of specific policy and advocacy products.

As part of our land and seas team, you will be working with staff covering marine, climate change and land use policy. As part of this team you will work closely with RSPB policy colleagues across the UK, and play a role in our collaborative work with other NGOs and networks, to ensure nature stays on the political agenda and encouraging others to step up and act on nature's behalf.

The successful candidate will also play a supporting role in RSPB advocacy across the UK, and that of our partners, assisting with the organisation of events, project management and producing briefings for senior managers.

You will:

Be able to analyse complex issues in a fast paced environment
Have a relevant degree qualification or equivalent
Have good written and verbal communication skills
Be able to manage projects effectively, and have strong time management and organisational skills
Have a full driving licence

Successful candidates will need the flexibility and transferable skills to support other areas of work and colleagues in other regions and countries, as needed.

Salary starting at

£19,602 to £21,236 per annum. Applicants should expect under normal circumstances to receive an offer at the bottom of the advertised range.
