Project Manager - Tests and Trials

Reference number: A3111119

Location: Norwich/Flexible

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of agri-environment support in England. We are looking for an experienced social scientist with project management skills and experience of working in nature conservation, to lead and deliver a 14-month Defra funded project.

About the project
This project forms part of a wider programme of 'test and trials' being run by Defra to engage with stakeholders and inform the design of the post Brexit environmental land management system in England.

The purpose of this trial is to determine whether the data generated through self-assessment is of sufficient quality to complement the scientific monitoring of a plan based environmental land management scheme and support the verification of results-based payments. In addition, the trial will seek to determine farmer attitudes towards self-assessment and its potential role in a payment by results approach.

About you
You will be an experienced social scientist with a strong background in project management. You will be capable of both managing and leading this project for the RSPB, ensuring it is delivered to time and budget. You will also be responsible for producing regular formal progress reports for the project team and Defra.
Excellent communication skills will be essential, we are particularly interested to hear from candidates with experience of working with farmers and farming groups. A background in wildlife conservation or ecology is essential for this role and an understanding of farming and agri-environment schemes is highly desirable.

Salary starting at

£25,463 to £27,585 per annum. Applicants should expect under normal circumstances to receive an offer at the bottom of the advertised range.
