Are you passionate about delivering conservation, working with, through and for people, from the Forest of Dean to the edge of the Peak District?

We are seeking an Area Manager to provide the strategic leadership for delivery of the RSPB's mission across the West Midlands. This will include direct accountability for all reserve, conservation, project and learning delivery which will be part the area team.

This area contains a large population and it is therefore already the location for many people engagement, nature tourism and partnership projects. This role will therefore play a critical role in developing and delivering our Saving Nature Through People strategic theme. In addition to the leadership of the area, as part of a cohort of Area Managers working to the Operation Directors, this post may be expected to play a wider leadership role including taking on responsibility for areas of work on behalf of the wider region or country.

In order to effectively deliver strategy, the Area Manager will also have an important externally facing role with a need to influence and build relationships and partnerships with relevant partners, stakeholders and decision makers.

The Area Manager will line manage Senior/Site Managers, Senior/Conservation Officer and any relevant Programme or Project Managers.

Although not line managed by the Area Manager, there will need to be support from the country-lead functional teams (eg communications and fundraising) in order to deliver the strategic objectives in the area. The Area Manager will be expected to work with relevant country colleagues as part of the business planning process to ensure the work of the area and functional teams are aligned.

Salary starting at

£48,848 to £52,919 per annum - Applicants should expect under normal circumstances to receive an offer at the bottom of the advertised range

Hours: Full time
Contract: Maternity cover, fixed term for 12 months
