The RSPB is the largest nature conservation charity in the Europe with over 1.2 million members, annual income of circa £135m and around 2,000 employees and 12,000 volunteers. We manage over 200 nature reserves in the UK and undertake a wide range of research, policy, advisory and educational activities, both in the UK and internationally.

This is an excellent opportunity for a fully qualified accountant (ACA/CMA/ACCA), with experience at the most senior level, to join the executive board of one of Europe's leading nature conservation charities. Reporting directly into our CEO, and an important member of our leadership Board team, you will be directly responsible for leadership and management of our Finance and Governance & Risk directorates, as well as leading on financial strategy, financial management processes throughout the organisation, risk management, internal audit, legal support for the organisation, innovative finance and governance.
Having a successful track record in setting financial strategy and leading a large finance operation is a must. You will be fully versed in current and forthcoming trends and opportunities relevant to our operating environment, and be able to deliver creative solutions to challenges. We expect you to deliver best-in-class charity governance.

Our Finance and Governance & Risk directorates have a combined staffing of around 55. Finance includes our Pensions Team, whilst Governance and Risk includes our Legal Team.

You will be able to provide clear strategic priorities and direction and deliver a culture of sound financial management together with innovative thinking and development of solutions. This will be combined with an ability to develop others, fostering a climate of continuous learning. Your superior communication skills will enable you to show how short-term plans translate into longer term vision and strategy, and you will bring clarity to complex issues. Under your lead the RSPB will continue to deliver robust financial analysis, full regulatory compliance and be quick to react to create and take opportunities for further funding.
