Environmental Farming Scheme (EFS) Monitoring Officer

Reference number: A4390120

Location: Antrim Plateau

The post-holder will conduct surveys on breeding waders (curlews, lapwings and snipe) on upland and moorland farms in the Antrim Hills Curlew Initiative, which is a group option within the Environmental Farming Scheme (EFS) facilitated by RSPB.

The main tasks will be conducting surveys of farmland/moorland birds, with a particular focus on curlew, to determine species abundance and distribution, conducting farmland/moorland vegetation surveys, liaising with farmers and landowners on-site and local RSPB staff, keeping neat field notes and inputting data on excel and GIS.

The post is physically demanding, requiring pre-dawn starts, long days of walking over rough terrain, sometimes in inclement weather. You will be required to work unsociable hours, including the occasional weekend, depending on weather.

Although the vast majority of your time will be spent in the field, you will be expected to complete all associated data entry/checking throughout the length of the contract. You will also be required to submit all paper records at the end of the contract, and it is therefore essential that all notes are kept in a neat, organised and legible fashion.
