Senior Service Designer

Reference number: A5010220

Location: Bedfordshire

The RSPB has always been here to save nature - from our origins as a campaign to end the use of feather in women's hats right through to our present-day ground breaking research, saving species from extinction, protecting some of wildlife's finest sites in the UK and beyond and engaging millions of people in the wonders of wildlife. We've been successful because we've always adapted. We've never stood still. We have and continue to evolve.

Your role in saving nature

The RSPB's digital estate is vital to our mission to give nature a home - from rallying people together to speak up for nature, to inspiring a love of wildlife, to raising the income that pays for our conservation work in the UK and around the world.

We're looking for a Senior Service Designer with real world experience to join our newly formed service design function within the Technology Design and Delivery Team.

You'll utilise your passion for engaging users, creativity and experience to help shape our user-centred service design offer and to support the Digital Service Design Manager to share and spread knowledge of the advantages of a user-centred approach to service design throughout the RSPB.

As Senior Service Designer you will be responsible for ensuring that our design decisions are based on robust evidence and an iterative, agile process. You'll work to understand the end to end journey of a service and make sure we leave no stone unturned in our efforts to understand the wider impact of changing existing and developing new services. You'll use your skills as a collaborator, communicator and facilitator to work with a team of UX researchers, solutions architects and business analysts to deliver an engaging and robust service to the rest of the organisation.

You will be equally happy providing feedback and guidance to technical teams as you will engaging the public in focus groups and creative activities.

Typical activities in this role will include:
• Working with project managers to scope the end to end resource requirements of a digital project
• Undertaking user research activities with individuals and small groups of people (staff, public)
• Facilitating workshops
• Facilitating synthesis sessions with project teams
• Presenting outputs and feedback to internal stakeholders
• Delivering training sessions
• Translating activity outputs into tangible requirements
• Prototyping
• Presenting our model and acting as an advocate for a service design approach in meetings.

Above all else, you'll be an advocate for saving nature. Nature's in big trouble - the climate crisis and loss of habitat are pushing some of our best loved species towards extinction. We won't let nature fall silent. This role is your chance to make real change possible. What do you say?

Where you'll be working:

We're flexible about where you're going to work from but there's an expectation that you'll have to regularly travel to deliver work as part of projects and meet up with the rest of the team.

Please send in your CV and a covering letter as soon as you are ready - we are actively recruiting and may draw the role to close when suitable applications are received. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

The RSPB is a team of more than 1,000 staff and 8,000 volunteers, all working to give nature a home, in the UK and around the world, from the heathlands of Dorset to the rainforests of Sierra Leone. You'll join a group of passionate research scientists, marketers, policy advisors, creatives, ecologists, communicators and educators. Are you with us?

The RSPB is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to the appropriate safeguarding checks upon appointment.
