Are you looking for a unique role working in seabird, shorebird and habitat conservation amongst the shingle and saltmarsh of the Solent? The RSPB are now recruiting a seasonal warden based primarily at our Langstone Harbour reserve with some work across our reserves in the eastern Solent.

During the summer breeding season, Langstone Harbour holds significant populations of terns, gulls and shorebirds which primarily nest on the RSPB's offshore islands. You'll be leading the habitat preparation work, monitoring and safeguarding of these important colonies. To do this, much of your time in suitable weather will be spent working offshore, accessing the area via our reserve boat ('The Good Tern'). Elsewhere, you'll be covering our summer seabird work at the West Hayling Local Nature Reserve and leading the wardening at the Pilsey Island nature reserve in Chichester Harbour. You'll also be doing occasional work on our Pagham Harbour and Medmerry reserves along with the wider Solent team.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for seabird, coastal and wetland wildlife as well as more general wardening and habitat management experience. An RYA level 2 certificate in Powerboat use is desirable but not essential (training can be given for the right candidate). If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.

This is currently a temporary post running for 6 months from the start date (expected to be mid-March). There is the possibility that the role could become a permanent full-time one during the length of the contract.
