Visitor Experience Manager

Reference number: A5130220

Location: South Yorkshire

We're looking for a natural leader with excellent people skills combined with a passion for connecting people with nature.

Working at an urban fringe nature reserve as a part of a highly motivated visitor services team, you'll explore new ways of engaging with a variety of audiences; inspiring our visitors to support nature conservation now and in the future. The role is fundamental in ensuring we have the highest quality of visitor experience for both new and existing audiences.

The Visitor Experience Manager post is responsible for leading, developing and delivering our visitor experience offer throughout the year, including a busy events and activities programme, reserve interpretation, partnership working, volunteer recruitment and management, support for our Schools on Reserves programme and delivering promotional activities, particularly social media content.

It is an exciting time in the Dearne Valley. We have just been awarded a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to transform our nature reserves for both visitors and wildlife.

The Dearne Valley is an amazing restoration success story. In less than a generation, the landscape has changed from one of Europe's largest coal production areas to a chain of nationally important wetlands supporting breeding bittern, bearded tit, avocet, lapwing and willow tit alongside a wide range of breeding, wintering and migratory wildlife. At the centre of this is RSPB Old Moor, our flagship reserve; hosting a
visitor centre, café, activity centre and Discovery Zone. It is the perfect platform for the delivery of a fantastic visitor experience and exciting events. You will work alongside the Project Manager and line manage the community engagement officer to deliver this exciting project.

You will also be working with the Senior Site Manager and Visitor Operations Manager to ensure a coherent visitor offer is delivered whilst also working closely with the HQ team to ensure reserves delivery is aligned with strategy.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in event management, visitor experience and communications - if that's you we'd love to hear from you.
