Abernethy Assistant Warden

Location: Nethy Bridge, Inverness-shire

We are looking for someone with practical skills and experience who can get work done on the ground as part of a 3 year project to improve habitat conditions for capercaillie. This work will include feeding cattle and maintaining electric fencing, mapping work done by contractors and undertaking species and habitat monitoring. Working in the stunning surroundings of Abernethy forest and in challenging terrain and weather conditions, the successful applicant will also keep on top of essential reserve maintenance work (fencing, track repairs, machinery maintenance and habitat management) and assist with some wildlife monitoring work.

We are looking for someone who wants to be outside getting work done on the reserve and in the workshop keeping on top of maintenance tasks whilst also being a positive part of the wardening team, contributing wherever help is needed to keep the reserve functioning whilst ensuring the 3 year project is delivered.

Though not essential, experience and / or tickets for the following will be a particular advantage; ATV, Argocat, Tractor, working with cattle and working with electric fences. Some experience of species and habitat monitoring will be an advantage.

Salary starting at

£21,718 to £24,293 per annum
