Zoom Talk: The Cirl Bunting Project, Thursday 11 November at 7pm

Zoom Talk: The Cirl Bunting Project, Thursday 11 November at 7pm

Having once been widespread in southern England and Wales, the UK population of cirl buntings suffered a dramatic decline from a peak in the 1930s. In 1989, a national survey recorded just 118 pairs, mostly in the south of Devon. In response to this decline, the RSPB and Natural England joined forces to set up the Cirl Bunting Project in the early 1990s with the aim of saving the cirl bunting from extinction in the UK.

RSPB Conservation Officer Cath Jeffs will bring us up-to-date with this important project, which involved working with local farmers to rebuild numbers of cirl buntings and create a sustainable population of the birds in the south-west of England.

Our Zoom talks are open to members (free) and non-members (£4) of the Chichester Local Group, but please book in advance if you'd like to attend. Contact Rob Yarham to book, or for more information on joining the Group, by emailing chichesterbirds@gmail.com or phoning 07545 376074.
