Tesco Collection

This was held in June and yielded £277 which has gone off to RSPB as part of a £600 donation to be used for the Lapwing Landscape project. It is hoped that this will become an annual event as it is a relatively painless way of raising money for RSPB.

Sponsored Bird Watch

The sponsored Bird Watch was held in May and fielded a Men's Team and a Ladies Team. Although no records were broken this time, the men bagged 95 species including whimbrel, woodlark, corn bunting and avocet.
The Ladies Team who were unfortunate in having poor weather, reached a total of 78 birds, also down on the previous year. Their bag included tree pipit. pied flycatcher, wood warbler and tawny owl. A goodly sum was raised by both teams bringing the total raised by this event since its inception in 1988 to over £25,000.

Sad Loss for the Group

We were much saddened by the loss of Edward Cox in July, a much loved and popular member and friend of the Group. He had an amazing knowledge of wildlife and always had something of interest to show - a furry caterpillar, a shiny beetle, shells, stone, plants, mosses, ferns - the list is endless. We are all going to miss him, but what spirit he had, keeping forward looking and active right to the end.
