Nature up close - wildlife survey day

Saturday 8 June

8.30 am - 11 pm

Price: £100 per person / £80 for RSPB members

Booking essential

An exclusive opportunity to spend the day getting up close and personal with some of our incredible wildlife, visiting parts of the reserve that are not normally open to the public. We’ll be in a small group so there will be chance for close up views, for photography and even to handle some creatures whilst you learn about wildlife survey techniques and the insights we’re gaining from doing them.  You’ll be led by the team who conduct these surveys on the reserve and helping us to gather information. We’ll also be using specialist equipment such as moth traps and bat detectors.

Your day will include moths, small mammals, reptiles, butterflies and dragonflies.  In the evening we’ll be heading onto the heath in search of bats, nightjars and glow worms.  We’ll be keeping you supplied with tea & coffee throughout the day and will also include a breakfast bap and picnic lunch.

You’ll have free time between 4 pm and 8 pm so you are welcome to explore the nature reserve or pop into one of our local villages for dinner – let us know if you need some recommendations.

If the weather is unsuitable for these surveys, the event will be cancelled and you would be invited to attend on an alternative date.

8.30 am – 11 pm (but with free time between 4 pm and 8 pm)

Booking essential - - please contact the visitor centre on 01798 875851 between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm.

Torch and insect repellant recommended.

Some parts of this event will take place on our heathland or will go off trail and are unsuitable for our tramper vehicle.
