today's garden visitors

  • His mate was just out of shot.

  • They're still about. Not sure what's different this year. There have been fleeting visits by linnets a couple of times previously, but this small flock (approx 5) has been here at least five days now. No idea what they're feeding on as our garden is totally weed free.......ish.

  • How ish?

  • The dandelions, creeping buttercup and daisy in the photo are just rogue individuals in the lawn. Out of shot, it's all pristine turf! Ok, maybe not. Got cowslips, aconites, wild daffs, teasels, cow parsley a newly discovered pyramidal orchid etc, as well as weeds already mentioned. So, on an ish scale, probably a 5. Not counting the lawn though, weeds are few and far between, especially annual ones. Just small pockets of ground elder, bindweed, ragwort and the odd thistle. The latter two I keep on purpose. The other two I'm winning against, but it takes years. Not sure if any of that lot is linnet food though. Maybe teasel seeds on the ground.....?
