I took a bit longer editing these videos but they are finished now and ready to post. I've tried to focus on a different aspect of the Bittern's behaviour in each one rather than post a twenty minute video with all of the footage. Of the two videos are one shows a bit more wading and one deals with its camouflage.
The first is 'wading'
And this final video is about the Bittern's camouflage when seen in against its normal reedbed background!
Two great videos John, in the first he is up and down that bank so expertly and dipping in his head to have a sip of water, just showing off his huge feet - wonderful. The second shows up his camouflage against the reeds so well, when he freezes you really wouldn't know he was there unless you had been previously watching.
Thanks Gaynor, I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Great to know you enjoyed it!
Fantastic videos John. I love the slow deliberate movements of the Bittern. Maybe I'll get to see one some day.
Thank you Jenny. Really hope you do get to see one soon. This one was far away from their usual habitat and if they can turn up here, on a fishing pool a quarter of a mile from the busy M4 with no proper reed beds, they can turn up anywhere!
