Ron Weasel has been making a bit of a nuicence of himself in recent days by persistantly stalking the House Sparrows in the car park and along the first section of the river wall. He is up to his usual acobatic tricks but so far the sparrows have been quicker than he is! Yesterday, he gave up and went and caught a shrew instead!
Well done to Harry Martin for these awesome shots....
We still have several fruiting Walnut Trees on the reserve and every year it is a battle between us and the local squirrels to see who can get to the nuts first.
The trouble is that the Squirls are crafty and pick them early when they are still welded to the tree and decidedly on the green side.
I am hoping this year that at long last I may get to try a genuine Rainham Marshes Walnut as a tiny tree that I saved, quite literally from the bulldozers seven years ago is bearing a good crop and growing out of the middle of a huge bramble clump may keep the arboreal rodents at furry arms length.
On the other hand, I have not yet devised a plan to get to them myself!
