It's all go at Rye Meads today!
We have:-- a guided walk for a local U3A group, led by one of our able volunteers- the tawny owl chicks are still showing- a school group from Beechwood Park, studying the birds and carrying out pond dipping - 19 redpoll cattle from the Essex grazing project have been released to graze the meadow for the summer- we have 2 greenshank! plus redshank and 3 snipe on Draper scrape- one of our lapwing pairs have hatched 3 extremely cute chicks- But the news to end all news, the KINGFISHERS have HATCHED! The lucky U3A group were able to see an adult leaving the burrow with a piece of egg shell!!! (I was only one day out on my estimate, not bad). This is the first brood of 2017 and should be ready to leave the nest at the end of May.
With all this action it is a great time to visit, so we hope to see you soon.
