  • Media: Male common darter dragonfly

    Mature male perched above a pool on Covert Coch.
  • Media: Golden-ringed dragonfly

    A large dragonfly which occurs in small numbers at Ynys Hir. May be seen patrolling paths and rides. This one was spotted on the main ride.
  • Media: Black darter dragonfly

    Small, quite common dragonfly on the reserve. Most frequent in late summer often found along the main ride close to the bogs.

    A large dragonfly which occurs in good numbers at Ynys Hir. May be seen patrolling paths and rides in late summer. Males will sometimes fly quite close to inspect anyone in their territory.
  • Media: Four-spotted chaser dragonfly

    Quite common, medium-sixed dragonfly ay Ynys Hir. Can be seen along ditches and around the bogs and pools.
  • Media: Common darter dragonfly

    Very common dragonfly at Ynys Hir. Likes to perch in sunny positions such as fences, gates and on the ground. This is either a female or immature male. Mature males have orange-red colouration.
