Wildlife
We're about more than just birds (though obviously we like them a lot).
All creatures....

Juvenile Kingfisher, Gosforth Park Nature reserve.

  • 3 juvenile Kingfisher have been attracted to the pools in the reserve, which came as a bit of a surprise as regular Kingfisher had not been seen over the winter and the worst had been feared. But Mother Nature is obviously hard to beat.

  • Superb shots Bob if I had to pick a favourite it would be the second one.

Looks like someone has had permission to splash out a bit of money lol.

Thanks Alan - you  know what they say, you can't take it with you. I was thinking of a 300 f2.8 for the more walking about that I'm doing but then thought that would probably make my 200 and 400 lenses redundant and leave me with 2 big lenses (though the 300 is a bit of a breeze to carry, I hired one for a week). Then I thought about changing the camera - I think I'm prepared to exchange reach for picture quality and better poor light performance. At the minute I'm delighted in that it seems to have breathed new life into the 400mm lens as I can take it out and even use it it with a TC in conditions I wouldn't have been able to consider with the 7D Mkii, excellent camera though it was. We'll see how it goes. I am also thinking of trying some night photography as we get some pretty good skies up here.

  • Beauties Bob, lovely to see the family of KFs

  • Sensational shots, Bob. Professional quality to my eye. Quite envious as I haven't seen a (photographable) Kingfisher on my patch for ages.

If you are sticking with Canon then go for the best. Image quality is terrific.

  • What a treat Bob, your photos are stupendous.   Best one for me is when the Kingfisher is coming out of the water with the droplets all around and the reflection below.

  • Lovely shots Bob! I went out to GPNR today to see if I could see those kingfishers but apparently, they have not been seen lately. One of the birders that we met on the way there said he didn't see any this evening and another was in the hide waiting to see one since he has not had a proper view of one before. I shall about my time there in the Odds & Sods thread.

Yes I noticed that on the GPNR Facebook page that no KF had been seen today. I was going to try another visit myself but I might see what pans out over the next couple of days.
