Hartington and River Dove 6-8-2018

  • Had a very nice day out with Hazel and Mike and saw some very nice wildlife, I got there just befor 8:00am Hazel and Mike 5 mins later, we set off and not long into the walk I caught sight of a Hare in a field to our left so this is my first picture the rest I am getting ready now, so will add more as I get them ready.

  • Brilliant capture Jim, you did well spotting the speedy Hare as it scampered across to the wall.  Looking forward to the Dippers and other shots now.

  • Thanks Hazel, as you know I only had one chance before it got to the wall and bush's.

Some more from yesterday, first Dipper and it was a young one sadly it was on the other side of the dove and in shade but managed a couple of pictures.

    Young Grey wagtail.

    Mallard Ducklings.

    Female Mallard.

    Wall Butterfly

And this was my first picture of the day not the one in my first post I though it was a hare till I took the picture :)

  • Those are very nice Dipper shots Jim and can't wait for the others to come;   the Wall Brown is beautiful.

Is that a Lapwing at the side of the Hare?

  • Thanks Hazel, Alan, and I just had a look and there is no Lapwing Alan just a lot of stones.

There are a quite a few Dipper pictures here but I have picked what I thought are the best of all that was taken and I did take a lot lol

  • I can see a Lapwing Jim (not the stones)  -  to the right of the Hare !!

  • Cracking shots Jim

    It's flown

  • Wow, it came back again in the second shot I took :)

  • LOL

  • Fabulous set of photos James and I'm pleased to hear you had a lovely day out with Hazel and Mike.  You've got some great Dipper shots there particularly as they are such a hard bird to photograph. Love the Wall Butterfly - I've never seen one of those - even though we are just next door in nottinghamshire, we don't seem to get them

Hazy - I have arranged to go to Hartington this coming Thursday with my friend.  James' photos and your previous thread have really whetted my appetite and if I can see a Dipper or two and maybe a Wall Butterfly, then I shall be more than happy!  Fingers crossed!

  • Thank you Christine, and I hope you see what we did, Hazel also got a picture of a Gatekeeper Butterfly and I got a few more pictures.

    Small Copper

My Gatekeeper not as good as Hazel's

    Common Darter.

  • Fab photo of the Small Copper James - such a beautiful little butterfly.  If I see most of the things you saw then I shall be very happy.  The weather forecast is pretty good - not as hot (for which I'm thankful if we're out walking!) with sunny intervals.
