Hi, new to forum malarky. Anyone know where the best place to view a starling murmuration is near Stoke? Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

  • Hi Aaron and welcome to the Community forum;

    Doxey Marshes or Aqualate Mere seem to have been mentioned in the past for the starling murmurations although I'm not familiar with those areas myself.   Also the Stone area.

  • We are based in N.Yorkshire so our info is not much use to you but around home the Starlings only seem to be gathering in small flocks of a few hundred and it is not until later in the year the birds gather in big numbers for spectacular sights. There has been a web site in previous years giving details of murmurations but I cannot remember who it was run by. It may be worth scanning the web for such a site or have a word with local birders who are usually on the ball with these details.
