The Dales are characterised by dry-stone walls, field barns, wild flower hay meadows and rolling limestone hills. This nest is in a stone built field barn on the hillside above Hubberholme, in one of the high ventilation holes. Other holes are occupied by Jackdaws.
Thanks for the cam Carnyx
First capture ... resolution looks a bit odd, hoping it's just the sun's glare causing it
Looking forward with glee to egg laying here!
Unbelievable!!! Just logged & found this
A possible end of our Kestrel nest as a Weasel attacks the female. The dramatic sequence saw the Weasel attack the Kestrel three times in a little over ten minutes. The first time attacking from within the stone wall, it scared her off the egg before having a good look round (see picture). The second and third times it was a full on fight. The final battle saw the Weasel enter the nest from outside (see picture). Attempts have been made to block all the interior holes to the nest, but the Weasel seems able to scale the outside of the barn. So it looks grim for this pair of Kestrels and perhaps the Jackdaws nesting in other holes.
How dreadful!!!! What is it with weasel attacks this year?? Did it predate the egg? Unbelievable!! So shocked!
All is well this morning. Male, Female and egg all intact. so we wait and see....
Thanks for this great news Carnyx ... phew!!
Glary ol' capture but shows all is indeed well!
Great night-time capture of Mrs K & her egg
Hope the Weasels stay away tonight!
Busy, busy Mrs K!!!!
Mrs K continues to add to her clutch
Odd coloured day pic but I wonder if the Mrs is laying another egg ... will check back tonight when black & white night cam gives us a better view
ETA: @ 15.15 ... Looks like four now!
Video footage of Mrs YD Kestrel incubating her 4 eggs, clear detail in black & white from the night cam a short while ago

And then there were FIVE!! Clever Mrs YDK
No update today as to whether or not Mrs YDK has laid a sixth egg as Carnyx are having problems with transmission & cam has been unavailable all day & evening!!
