Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what this is, found suspended in a tree in my local park. Looks like a ball of string or fine wool, but intricately constructed, a nest of some sort??
While out today, found the answer to our mystery, seems like Alan (Doggie) was right, this familiar object was laid at the side of the lane, our object just has its outer shell removed!
Mystery solve methinks.
Fairly large MC, small rugby ball size and shape, tho' where a bird would get a ball of string from I don't know :-)
Wow! I have no (sensible) idea.
Wow - how bizarre !! not a clue Terry
It's a shame we can't see what's within all that string.
turbomanFairly large MC, small rugby ball size and shape,
Is that what it just is...a ball where the outer coating has rotted away leaving the insides.?
Now there's an idea Alan.
You need to go back...climb the tree and get it down
I'm 71 not 17 Alan, plus it's raining out :-)
Sun came out, so down to the park, unfortunately the object is about 8ft up the tree which is leant out over a steep slope, so no way of accessing it, does look like an old string bag though :-)
Very interesting indeed TBM! Certainly looks like a large quantity of string, I can see the green showing through as the new foilage on the tree, but what is the black I wonder?
Maybe it's something captured by giant spiders?
Maybe you have a Golden Oriole nesting Terry lol !
Looks like someone finally got fed up of knitting lol.
