Hi, took this pic last week on the climb up Simon's Seat (Yorkshire Dales, heather moors). My likely wrong guess would be Willow Warbler. Any more informed thoughts! thanks, Mike

  • Thanks. Still willow warbler IMO.

  • Hi Michael, it looks like a willow warbler because of its fleshy coloured legs. Chiffchaff legs are usually darker in colour whereas willow warblers have pale, pinkish- flesh coloured legs, not always though, but usually.

    Hope this helps!

  • Thanks all, on balance looks like probably a Willow Warbler.

    Cheers

  • Hi Michael,

Identification of willow warblers and chiffchaffs is always difficult however i would say that this bird is a chiffchaff.

  • Got to admit, I would also say it's a willow warbler from that one photo. Don't suppose you have anymore of it?

  • Hi Robbo, I'll check tonight. I did take more but most/all were completely out of focus (camera seemed to throw a wobbly, which makes a change to the bird flying off just as I acquire foucs :) )
