We moved here in 2012. There were a very small number of sickly/weak cowslips in the lawn. I let the one that flowered go to seed and bought more seed to get a few new patches started, as well as supplement the existing patch. To cut a long story short, they've expanded and larger and larger areas of lawn are being left to grow until they've gone to seed. This year, a new flower has appeared in one of those sections. I think it's a pyramidal orchid but I'm not good with orchids. Anyone know if it is, or if they believe it's something else? Thanks in advance.
It certainly looks like it could be Robbo, there's an Orchid pdf link www.nhm.ac.uk/.../orchid-observers-id-guide.pdf it says it has a vanilla scent.
Thanks Alan. I confess that I did consult that pdf before opening the thread.
I can't smell anything. Maybe it'll be more noticeable when it's fully open. One other thing is there aren't really any leaves "flat to the ground" as per pdf.
