Bowland Safari Walks Announced for 2020

Bowland Safari Walks Announced for 2020

As per the RSPB's Events page (

Join our expert guide for a spectacular walk along one of the Forest of Bowland's most stunning valleys and discover some of the incredible wildlife that makes their home here in the spring and summer.

We will be looking out for rare upland birds including hen harriers, ring ouzels, cuckoos and merlins. We also hope to spot other moorland specialities such as stonechats, meadow pipits, curlews, and have the chance of seeing green hairstreak butterflies.

This event must be booked and paid for in advance. Tickets are £10 each (RSPB members £8) plus booking fee, available via Eventbrite:

The safari walk will meet at 9.15am for a 9.30am departure at the pay and display public car park in Slaidburn village at BB7 3ES and will aim to return to the car park around 2.30pm. From the Slaidburn car park we will take a few cars up to the start of the walk as parking in that area is limited.

The walk will be on a rough track in exposed upland habitat so please make sure you bring warm and waterproof clothing and sturdy foot wear, no matter what the weather forecast. Please bear in mind that we reserve the right to turn people away from the walks if they are not properly attired. Please also bring sun block and hat in case we are lucky enough to see the sun. We will be out over lunch so bring a picnic lunch and plenty of water. Don't forget your binoculars if you have a pair. The distance of the walk is approximately five kilometres. We will take it slowly, but there are a couple of moderately steep sections. Your walk will be led by an RSPB expert, James Bray, who will meet you in the car park.
