Sefton Park Saunter

Sefton Park Saunter
Female kingfisher - Laura Bimson

Wednesday, 1 February 2017

A bright sunny morning started the walk around one of the best public parks in Liverpool. Upto 10 ring necked parakeets were seen; some of these birds were observed prospecting for nesting sites during the week of the big garden birdwatch. The park has several popular kingfishers, and right on cue the group had very good views of one of the females fishing in the stream at the back of the aviary cafe. The park has many species of duck on the lake but perhaps one of the most attractive is the mandarin, near the end of the walk a female mandarin was seen close up on the main lake.
