Wigan Flashes - 15/11/14
Tufted duck - Holly Page

Saturday, 15 November 2014

We called first at the feeding station but very little food was evident. In spite of this we managed to see the expected willow tits along with blue, great and coal tits.

Walking the canal towpath we saw a small group of redwings, a couple of song thrushes and a few blackbirds. 5 bullfinch were seen feeding on birch tree seeds along with a chaffinch.

On the flashes were the expected ducks, grebes and gulls but the majority of birds were coots. On the alder trees alongside the canal a flock of 40 goldfinches were feeding. A couple of Cetti's warbler were heard calling but as usual they never showed. In total 40 species were seen and at midday we dispersed.
