Our next meeting features wildlife artist Peter Partington and our Christmas social. Thursday 10th December

Our next meeting will feature Peter Partington, well known wildlife artist and illustrator of the 'Secret Lives' series of books and many others. Peter will draw for us using an overhead projector so that we can see him demonstrating his artistic skills; people will be able to request which bird they would like him to draw. Then he will talk about his work as a wildlife artist. This will be followed by our Christmas social with festive food and drink.

Peter lives and works in Suffolk. He describes himself thus. Pertinent facts? I show work regularly at Birdscapes Gallery, the Wildlife Art Gallery in Lavenham, near me, and Aldeburgh, London and Scottish galleries among others... I am an early member of the Artists for Nature Foundation where conservation and art come together, participating in many of their projects at home and abroad. I am an elected member of the Society for Wildlife Artists. I have illustrated the 'Secret Lives' series on nature published by Helm and many books on drawing in general. I believe in drawing and sketching from nature in the field, experiences there being the endless source of my inspiration.

He will bring some sketches for sale as well as a selection of his cards including a special offer on his 'Robin' cards.

After the talk we will have our Christmas social. We have booked the hall until 10pm and there will be a festive finger buffet plus Rosemary's mince pies, Graeme's alcoholic brownies, with wine and soft drinks.

Saturday 12th December Coach trip to Minsmere RSPB reserve in Suffolk.

Saturday 12th December Coach trip to Minsmere RSPB reserve in Suffolk.

The RSPB's premier reserve, with reedbeds, fen, pools, woodland and seashore. Home of Springwatch and famous for its sticklebacks and egg stealing badger, Minsmere is a delight at any time of year.

We will be looking out for Bewick's swan, red-throated divers, bittern, barn and short-eared owls, marsh and hen harriers, merlin, peregrine and winter thrushes as well as waders and wildfowl. We have usually had sightings of otters on recent visits. Minsmere's café is legendary and serves meals, soup, snacks, cakes and hot drinks. There is a well stocked shop selling optics, books, bird food and feeders and, no doubt, Christmas cards.

Entrance £8.00 for non-RSPB members.
Booking essential. Contact Derik Palmer on 07768 121 435, or email cllgcoachbookings@gmail.com
