Hybrid duck by Shailesh Kumar Patel

Saturday, 28 February 2015

The group's start and finish point was at Cheshunt Rail Station. The weather was dull and grey; however we did enjoy the walk. Our first stop was at Teal Hide; from the hide we saw Shovelers, dark Pheasant and a single Chinese Muntjac. Along the path, the group saw Treecreeper and a Chiffchaff.

At Friday Lake, 4 Smew (1 male, 3 females), single Goldeneye and a pair of Greylag Goose with a young one were seen. Our lunch stop was at Bittern information point at Fishers Green; we didn't see a Bittern or Water Rail. On our way to Holyfield Lake we saw a flock of about 40+ Fieldfares.

Catherine, John and I were behind the group and as we passed the Fishers Green lane car park, we saw a hybrid duck 1 drake and 2 females. We did take photos of the ducks and I found out that the hybrid duck was a Mallard x Wood Duck. End of the day the total was 41 species.

Thank you to Graeme for the wonderful walk.
