Forty of us went on this trip and we saw 71 bird species between us. The highlight for most people was the marsh harriers - there were several of them and they occasionally came closer than usual. We also saw the occasional hobby, and some people were lucky enough to see a bittern. Reed warblers and willow warblers sang frequently, Cetti's warblers teased us with their explosive calls, and blackcap and garden warbler were seen in the wooded area. There was a marsh tit on the bird feeder when we arrived; and after we had boarded the coach to depart someone pointed out a male bullfinch in a bush a few feet away - a fitting end to an excellent day's birding. In addition we saw several species of orchids - and some people saw uncommon species of dragonflies and butterflies.
