Ruddy darter by Czech Conroy Wildlife Photography

Wednesday, 13 July 2016

Forty eight of us went to Wicken Fen. The weather was dry apart from a couple of light showers and a bit of drizzle in the morning. Between us we saw 69 bird species altogether. Highlights included a barn owl hunting, house martins and swallows swooping around us catching insects, excellent views of a yellowhammer and a grass snake. The weather wasn't particularly good for dragonflies and damselflies - which Wicken Fen is famous for. Nevertheless, we still managed to see several species of them, including the four-spotted chaser and the ruddy darter. Overall, a good time was had by all.
