In Memoriam: Nigel Bromage

In Memoriam: Nigel Bromage

Nigel was our treasurer for 14 years from 1998 to 2012.

The Chester Group has been fortunate to have had very good committee members from its beginnings. Recruiting members to take up positions on committees is always difficult and finding a good and willing treasurer is the most difficult of all.

We were very fortunate to have, as a member of the group, someone so eminently qualified as Nigel Bromage for this key role. He had originally been introduced to the joys of birding by his wife Sarah.

Nigel was for many years the Bank of England's representative in the north of England and in his professional capacity, he dealt with business organisations of all sizes.

Inevitably, he already served voluntarily on numerous committees where his experience was greatly valued. Nevertheless, he agreed to add the Chester RSPB members group to his list. It must have been in sharp contrast to his day job that he now handled all those small coins from our meetings, collection boxes and membership fees.

Nigel loved cricket and live theatre. Perhaps the two do go together. On one occasion he was able to follow his team for the test match in Sri Lanka, where he was assured of a very good seat by his son-in-law, who was ambassador there at the time.

He was always excellent company, with a great repertoire of jokes and tales from 'The Bank'

Thank you Nigel.
