It's a Mug Game (or Bring Your Own Mug)

It's a Mug Game (or Bring Your Own Mug)

We had considered five options that were put to attendees at the meetings:
1. Continue as previously and use disposable, non-degradable plastic cups.
2. Switch to using a suitable bio-degradable cup (eg those now used by the National Trust).
3. Hire crockery from the Whitgift Sports Club.
4. Ask attendees to bring their own mug to meetings.
5. Stop serving teas and coffees at meetings.
Option 2 was a possibility as we could potentially source cups, but the cost would be at least twice that of current cups and would probably entail an increase in the entry charge for meetings.
Option 3 would have cost even more and there was no guarantee that cups hired for the afternoon would have cleared and washed ready for the evening.
We may have had to adopt option 5 due to a lack of volunteers to obtain supplies and actually prepare the teas and coffees. However, just before the meeting we manage to recruit some new helpers. As such we are now in a position to continue providing refreshments (but new volunteers would always be appreciated).
Both meetings were asked for a show of hands on all five options. Options 1, 2, 3 and 5 received no votes while option 4 was voted for by a large majority.
Consequently, with effect from the September 2018 meetings, we are asking members who wish to have tea/coffee to bring their own mugs to the meetings so we can fill them at the interval. And we hope you will be able to rinse them out afterwards. We will hold a small stock of spare mugs for the speaker, casual attendees and the odd member who forgets their own on the day. Should you happen to have a mug or two that you no longer require at home perhaps you could bring them along to donate to the Group.
Cheers everyone!
