Location: Meet at Loch of Balgavies SWT Reserve car park at 7pm.

An evening walk around the perimeter of Loch of Balgavies. A good chance to study the locally breeding ospreys and to see other woodland birds and waterfowl.

WEDNESDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 2020 - WILL CRESSWELL 'LOCAL PATCH BIRDING AROUND CRAIL & FIFE NESS'

Location: Methodist Hall(upstairs Hall), West Marketgait, Dundee

The full title of Will's talk is 'Local patch birding around Crail & Fife Ness - 230 and counting!' Will is a Professor of Biology at St Andrew's University and has a particular interest in the conservation and ecology of birds. He has a website 'Wild Crail' and contributes regularly to other local tourist sites including the Crail Newsletter. His passion is regularly walking his local patch, especially at migration times, to see what birds can be seen. Our local group was at Fife Ness in 2019 when he found a red-breasted flycatcher.

SUNDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER 2020 - OUTING TO SEE AUTUMN MIGRANTS.

Location: Meet at Crichton Street at 9am. Bring packed lunch and suitable clothing.

We have purposefully put down no venue for this meeting as it depends on the weather and the birds that have been seen in recent days. It could be down to Fife Ness where last year we saw red-breasted flycatcher or to the many migrant hotspots on the Angus coast where yellow-browed warblers might be viewed.

Location: Methodist Church Hall (upstairs Hall), West Marketgait, Dundee

Eric McCabe is a wonderful local wildlife & nature photographer who has given us some excellent talks over the past 10 years. He is widely travelled and his photographs have appeared in a number of prestigious publications. You can find out more about him on his 'Wildscotphotos' website. In this talk he will be pulling together photographs from a variety of trips to Eastern Europe to give us a taste of some of the delights to be seen in this region.

Location: Meet at Crichton Street, Dundee at 9am. Bring packed lunch and warm clothing.

As mentioned in the September outing this event could be to Fife Ness or along the Angus Coast. Late migrants such as pallas's warbler are possible but the birds to be seen are very much dependant on easterly winds.

WED NOVEMBER 11TH 2020 - DAVID HUNT 'UPLAND CONSERVATION IN TAYSIDE

Location: Methodist Church Hall (upstairs room), West Marketgait, Dundee

RSPB Conservation Officer, David Hunt will talk about the issues affecting the uplands of Tayside. He will look at the plight of the Hen Harrier and the status of other upland birds. Also he will look at issues such as red deer numbers, the culling of mountain hares etc. It should be a fascinating talk.

SUNDAY 22ND NOVEMBER 2020 - OUTING TO KINNORDY, BACKWATER AND LINTRATHEN.

Location: Meet at 9am at Crichton Street, Dundee. Bring packed lunch and warm clothing.

A look at the waterbirds over wintering on the Angus lochs. Also a good chance to see raptors such as golden eagle as well as red and black grouse. In the past we have seen smew as well as rarities such as red-necked grebe, american wigeon and green-winged teal.
