Purple Sandpipers spotted at Newhaven Harbour

Purple Sandpipers spotted at Newhaven Harbour

After waiting patiently and after six attempts, Malcolm Gumbrell eventually managed to see purple sandpipers at Newhaven Harbour on Tuesday, 18 March.

They could be seen at sea level, but luckily one decided to get closer, where Malcolm was able to get this fantastic shot.

Got any sightings or photos you would like to share? We would love to hear from you.

National Beached Bird Survey 2014

National Beached Bird Survey 2014

A big thank you to all the volunteers who had participated in this year's national beached bird survey during the weekend of 22 / 23 February. We had a nice stroll along the beach and at least the sun came out (well it did for some of us anyway).

We covered from Newhaven to Bexhill missing out Seaford Head, Seven Sisters and Beachy Head.

The birds that we found for this year were:

- guillemot - 29
- razorbill - 13
- black-headed gull - 3
- puffin - 3
- herring gull - 2
- kittiwake - 1
- unidentified - 3

And 1 dead fox!
