Just five members braved the cold, snowy weather to stroll along the road to Horse Eye and back. As luck would have it, the sun came out as we started and continued to shine.
In the field by the car park we found fieldfare, redwing and blackbird all feeding, with a flock of lapwing flying past. Along the road we scanned the flooded meadows and found some more lapwings along with Canada geese, and we heard the nice song of the skylark and robin. From Horse Eye there were more fieldfare, plus a large flock of starlings which we think exceeded one thousand birds. There was also a pair of stonechats and briefly there was a marsh harrier in flight. On the way back we came across a mistle thrush by the farm and very close to the road.
At the end of the walk, the farm turkeys came out to see us (they got through Christmas ok). It is always nice to see them. In all we found over 25 species and kept ourselves dry too.
