Cuckoo Trail Walk

Cuckoo Trail Walk

Saturday, 21 March 2015

Starting at Levette Road, Polegate, I led 12 members on a gentle stroll along the Cuckoo Trail towards Shinewater on the first day of spring, well at least the sun was out but a bit windy.

We came across a field of ponies which seemed to be full of birds; fieldfare, redwing, song thrush and blackbirds were everywhere, also a pair of stonechat. In the hedgerow there were all the garden birds. A bit further along there was a nice pond with a seat next to it, which was a good spot to have coffee, where we saw teal, green woodpecker and reed bunting. In a sheltered glade, we heard goldfinch and greenfinch singing. We walked a bit further and came across a kestrel (well Helen saw it with a few others).

Just before the gates by the A22, we turned around to go back. In all we had around 30 species of birds, an enjoyable morning.
