Saturday Walk: Horse Eye Levels

Marsh Harrier (female), close up of head

Saturday, 21 January 2017

18 members came long to Horse Eye Levels on a cold icy, but sunny day. We had two groups, Janet led 6 around Lookers, but we had to change the parking as some members did not want to drive over the icy roads. I took the remaining 12 from Rickney to Horse Eye.

We saw 5 thrushes, 5 birds of prey including marsh harrier (pictured) and sparrowhawk. A nice flock of lapwings flew over and some skylarks joined them while we were trying to see snipe on the ground (we could see where they had landed and then just disappeared). Janet's group had ravens and stonechat as well. The turkeys are still around on the farm and in the road as well as two stock doves on the wires by the barn.

In all we saw 40 species of birds between both groups.
