Location: Moorfoots

This is a chance to see moorland birds and hopefully some upland migrants. To minimise the number of cars we'll meet first at Gorebridge. From the city bypass take the A7 south. Keep on the A7 until you're past Newtongrange, then at traffic lights turn left on B704. Go straight uphill for 1mile into Gorebridge. Coach Outing to RSPB Loch of Kinordy and Murton Nature Reserve

Location: Coach Outing to RSPB Loch of Kinordy and Murton Nature Reserve

We will spend the morning birding at RSPB Loch of Kinnordy which is 1 mile west of Kirriemuir.

Three hides overlook a shallow loch surrounded by reed, scrub and farmland. The middle hide, "Gullery" is at the car park, "Swamp" hide is 290m to the left, and "East" hide is 250m to the right, all linked by a woodland path. Each hide gives a different view of the loch and, hopefully, the marsh harriers and osprey may grace our visit, as well as grebe, wildfowl, waders and swallows. The woodland holds resident birds and summer visitors.

In the afternoon the coach will take us to Murton Nature Reserve, just east of Forfar, where we will have our packed lunches and/or make use of the small tearoom there. This is our 3rd visit to this 80 acre reserve since it opened, and it is maturing nicely. There is a very pleasant circular grass and gravel path overlooking pools and wildflower meadows, and passing the sand martin nesting facility.

Departure is at 8.20am, AT THE LATEST, from West Register House, Charlotte Square, or at approximately 8.30am near the Drum Brae Roundabout on the Glasgow Road, about 100m west of PC World, near the filling station, with the return drop off points at the same 2 locations. Please clearly state your uplift point on the booking form. We aim to be back at Charlotte Square by 6.30pm

Isle of May

Location: Isle of May

In early summer the sea cliffs are covered with breeding kittiwakes, guillemots, razorbills and shags. Inland there are puffins and eider ducks. There are usually breeding terns and a colony of grey seals. Our sailing from Anstruther is at 11:15 with the crossing taking 45 minutes to an hour, including a cruise round the island. We will then have 2-3 hours on the island. This is weather dependent and if the sailing is cancelled we shall have a coastal walk. Even though it's June, bring warm waterproof clothing and lunch.

Members wishing to attend are required to book themselves onto this trip by contacting Anstruther Pleasure Cruises directly on 07957 585200 or email or online at
Costs are:- adult £28 or concessions £24 and if you really want to go on this trip then book up now. This boat trip is open to the public and it may sell out nearer the date.

Once you have booked yourself on the ferry please advise the trip organiser, Dave Stewart (email: or Mob: 07753 381147) so that he knows who to expect and if you could provide a mobile telephone number then that would be helpful. Also, the trip will conclude with a sit down fish supper/tea once back in Antruther, so it would be useful for Dave to know if you are 'dining' so he can book some tables in advance.

Members should aim to meet and check-in at Anstruther harbour by 10:30am at the latest for the 11.15am departure. (It is likely that a queue for best seats will form by 10:00).
