All Day Outdoor Field Trip - Packed Lunch Required
Stodmarsh National Nature Reserve (NNR), near Canterbury, is a unique area of wetland with marshes, reedbeds, lakes and woodland that is home to a rich variety of wildlife especially water birds.
The reserve has the largest reed bed in the south east of England, which supports a range of specialised birds and insects. The reed beds are an excellent sanctuary for migrating birds such as swallows and house martins in the summer and starlings in the winter. Bittern, marsh harrier, kingfisher, great crested grebe, coot, moorhen, reed bunting, bearded reedling can all be seen.
Meet in the reserve car park east of Stodmarsh village, located along the turn off between the Red Lion pub (Postcode CT3 4BA) and the church.

Indoor Meeting - Streaky and Proud: lark, pipit and wagtail identification - David Darrell-Lambert

Illustrated talk by David Darrell-Lambert.
At the age of nine David was taken on a school outing to a RSPB reserve. Waiting in a hide a Kingfisher dashed past and started his passion for birds.
In 1991 David began illustrating the London Bird Report. Since then he has become a local bird recorder (five years and just started again) and for the last ten years he has lead groups of birdwatchers in the London area.
David is currently the chair of the Ornithological section of the LNHS and gives talks on bird identification throughout London and the south east.

Outdoor Field Trip - RSPB Lakenheath Fen, Suffolk

With big skies, extensive reedbeds and booming bitterns. Come and see how the RSPB has transformed former carrot fields into a magical wetland home for kingfishers, cranes, otters and water voles.
Lakenheath Fen reserve comprises a mixture of wetland and woodland south of the Little Ouse in Suffolk. The RSPB has converted an area of arable farmland into a large wetland, consisting mainly of reedbeds and grazing marshes. The new reedbeds have attracted hundreds of pairs of reed warblers and sedge warblers, as well as bearded tits and marsh harriers.
All welcome! Packed lunch required. Refreshments available from the visitor centre.
