At the moment it's a large conifer plantation with just a few remnants of heathland surviving. Our plan is to restore the area to its original habitat of a wildlife-rich mosaic of heathland and native woodland species with some clumps of pines, a wet woodland, a rare woodland mire and forest ponds.

A waymarked nature trail leads you from the car park and along one of the many paths and around the reserve, past the decoy pond where you can sit and watch dragonflies and other wildlife on the water.

The trail passes sweet chestnut coppice, high conifer and drops down to the 'valley mire' - a rare wetland where a newly-built boardwalk allows you to venture across the bright iron-stained pools.
