Alney Island

Location: Meet at the small car park off the Over Causeway. The car park is on the left as you leave Gloucester, just before the new by-pass (A430). If you are approaching from the A40 you will need to go around the Westgate Galleria and double back a short way on the Over Causeway.

Following our successful visit to this river island adjacent to Gloucester City in 2020 (see the trip report on the website), it is worth a follow up. Rarities are unlikely but it is worthwhile checking what is there. At the last visit we had Kingfisher, Sparrowhawk, Peregrine and Black Redstart on the cathedral and large numbers of ducks including enough Shovelers to dig the channel tunnel.
