2017 Nature Photography Competition

2017 Nature Photography Competition

Almost 100 photo entries were received from 12 photographers for our 2017 Nature Photography Competition. This was the second photo competition to be held by the group, the first being in 2015 when 60 entries were received from 11 photographers with the subject of 'Wildlife'.

The subject on this occasion was 'Nature' ie. both flora and fauna, but with two categories - UK and non UK subjects. Most of the entrants submitted the maximum of 5 photos allowed in each of the two categories. We've decided not to publish a calendar, but instead to put more emphasis on the photo competition. Accordingly, there will be a small prize for the Judge's favourite photo in each of the two categories, and also for the Audience's favourite in each category.

Phil Farrer, a well known local naturalist / photographer and a local group member very kindly agreed to be the Judge. He had a difficult task judging the entries, partly because of the very diverse range of subjects submitted, as allowed by the rules.

The entries as shortlisted by the Judge were displayed at the September local group meeting for the audience ballot of their favourite photos. The final results were announced by Phil at the November meeting. Ian Brading was overall winner of the UK Category and Geoffrey Mogg overall winner of the Non UK Category. Kathy Moore, Judith Honour and Geoffrey Mogg submitted Highly Commended images.

The winning and shortlisted photos have been published on our new photo gallery website (see link below)
