Cuckoo perched in tree

Recent sightings.

Willow Warblers were singing on Skye on 17th April. Also seen on Skye were Great Skua at Broadford Bay and Greenshank.
Six Sand Martins were back at their colony at Lewiston on 19th.
Near Contin on 27th 4 singing Wood Warblers, 3 Tree Pipits and 3 House Martins were recorded.
Cuckoos were heard at Loch Ruthven on 28th and 3 were recorded in the Torridon area on 29th.
Also on 29th 3 Arctic Skuas flew inbound past Chanonry Point where 3 Wheatears were noted on the car-park.
Outside the Highland region 3 White Storks were seen near Llanbryde by members of the group as they were heading for Troup Head.

Chiffchaff standing on gorse

Spring Update

Chiffchaffs have been heard at Contin and Redcastle, where an Osprey was seen displaying on Sunday 5th April. Female Osprey EJ returned to Loch Garten on 27th March. Several Slavonian Grebes are beginning to display at Loch Ruthven where members of the group are again acting as voluntary wardens throughout the summer.
Other recent sightings include a Surf Scoter at Dornoch on 14th and 26th March, a Barnacle Goose at Loch Torridon on 19th, 1500 Pink-footed Geese at Udale Bay on 29th and 146 Scaup at Seafield, Inverness on 31st.
