Nairn and Culbin

Oystercatcher wading in shallow water

Monday, 2 February 2009

Our first stop was at Nairn harbour where over 2500 knot, 200 bar-tailed godwits, many redshanks and oystercatchers were on the beach. Also a flock of 65 snowbuntings were feeding close by. On the sea were long-tailed duck, scoter, scaup, red- breasted merganser and a red-throated diver. At Culbin we had 100+ sanderling and 26 brent geese. A total of 58 species were recorded despite the cold, blustery wind.
