Loch Ruthven

Loch Ruthven

Saturday, 28 March 2009

Fortunately the weather improved and by afternoon the sun was shining and the wind eased. At Loch Ruthven a pair of red throated divers were calling, red kite and golden eagle were also seen. On farmland at the west end of Loch Mhor a large number of waders were feeding, lapwings, curlews, oystercatchers and at least 130 golden plover looking very smart in beautiful breeding plumage.
After a couple more stops at smaller lochs we ended the day with a walk in the forest at Fort Augustus.
About 50 species were seen but no spring migrants found.
